¿WHAT IS TESTOSTERONE?

Testosterone is a hormone that your body produces, it is responsible for the normal growth and development of male sex organs and for the maintenance of other sexual issues. In men, testosterone is produced by the testicles, reproductive glands that also produce sperm. The amount of testosterone produced by the testiclesis regulated by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. It has morphological, metabolic and psychological effects.

Abnormal insufficient production of testosterone is called ” hypogonadism“, and it can be treated to tackle its effects.

¿WHAT IS HYPOGONADISM?

Hypogonadism appears when sex glands produce little or no hormones. In men, these glands (gonads) are testicles and in women these are ovaries.

Insufficient testosterone secretion causes male hypogonadism, characterized by having low testosterone levels in blood.

Symptoms associated with male hypogonadism include (among others): erectile dysfunction and impotence and reduced sexual desire, fatigue, depressed mood and lack of secondary sex characteristics, its incomplete development or regression, increased risk of osteoporosis, increment visceral fat and decrease inlean body mass and muscular strength.

Male hypogonadism refers to a reductionof testosterone production. This reduction in testosterone sexual hormones can lead to a number of symptoms like a lower sperm production, reduced sexual desire, less firm erections or feeling extremelyexhausted, as well as flaccidity in muscles, hair loss or excessive gain of body fat.

You should talk to a specialist about these symptoms, who will recommend you to undergo a testosterone treatmentto tackle these symptoms and make them disappear.

A reduction of testosterone levels is a bad symptom in patients with heart failure, and the use of testosterone supplements, within the body limits, help these patients to achieve along-term beneficial effect. Researches in patients with heart failure have shown that androgen supplements with pharmacologic doses of transdermal testosterone improves their symptoms, exercise capacity and their quality of life.

WHAT IS MALE MENOPAUSE, MALE CLIMACTERIUM?

Male menopause, is the process where men sexual abilities decrease with age, like other body functions, as a result of low levels of testosterone in his body, or due to a malfunction of testosterone receptors.

The terms”Male Menopause” or “Male Climacterium” are not scientific terms, but they are used to link this process that women experience with what happens to men, and although some symptoms are similar, neither the origin nor the consequences are the same.

In many cases men are not aware of their state but it is obvious that their testosterone levelsdecrease as time goes by, andthey may unconsciously understand the symptoms as normal states of age, not feeling really well .

THE ANALYSIS IS A LITTLE EXPENSIVE, WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE? AND WHY?

You may find other clinics in whichfree-testosterone analysis are cheaper. However, atLow Testosterone Clinic Doctor T, not only we check your testosterone levelsbut also other variables that can affect those levelsplussome side factors that can be incompatible with a testosterone treatment.

All these factors are important and relevant. Your health and safety is what matters. We will not carry out anincomplete test, but a complete and economical pack of 31 different analytical pointswhere all the necessary factors to determine the causes of a possible low testosterone are included, to allow us to recommend you the most suitable treatment for you, some of these points are:

FORMULA / ESR Erythrocyte sedimentation rate

GOT This evaluates thyroid activity.

SHT Stimulating hormone thyroid.

PSA It indicates prostate cancer but as its results might not be accurate, it is complemented with other tests.

FSH High levels of FSH in men may mean that their testicles are not working properly.

FREE-TESTOSTERONEThis is what really affect the overall body functions. Free-testosterone needs other factors to “activate” and produce its effects, which are also analyzed in these test.

DHTEST metabolizes testosterone. High levels of this help improve erections and ejaculations. Its natural form causes hair fall, however the artificial testosterone doesn´t.

Prolactin The following may have high levels: -Chest wall trauma. – Hypothalamic disease. – Hypothyroidism. – Renal disease. – Pituitary tumor that produces prolactin (prolactinoma). – Other pituitary tumors and diseases.

DHEA-S (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate). Androgenic hormone is used to evaluate performance and adrenal glands andthey areproduced in the testicles. It is a basic component in the formation of testosterone.

ESTRADIOL Estradiol helps prevent sperm from dying prematurely.

LH (luteinizing hormone) It is a sign of infertility or low libido. It is also a sign of a pituitary problem.

Cortisol plays an important role in: bone growth. – blood pressure control. -immune system function. – fats, carbohydrates and proteinsmetabolism. – nervous system function. – response to stress.

In each case the doctor may recommend to carry out more or less test than the above mentioned.

WHAT TREATMENT IS BEST FOR TESTOSTERONE DEFICIT?

Testosterone treatments begin with a diagnosis (simple blood test) followed by a therapy based on exogenous testosterone.

The key for a safe treatment is regular monitoring of the correct levels that affect your body, so that the therapy is as effective as possible. It is a very effective treatment but it is important to take it seriously. Endocrinology is a complex specialty, but carried out by expert hands is the most effective and safe .

HOW ARE MY TESTOSTERONE LEVELS DETERMINED?

First, look at the signs. Then, a simple analysis will be enough.

  • Evidence of having low testosterone:

For many years, men who have suffered from low testosterone have been untreated or misdiagnosed, being treated by doctors tackling only the symptoms and not working on what causes them.

If you feel …: weak or depressed over time, feels that yoursexual desire is not the same, you feel trouble to have mental agility, your physical appearance begins to decline, both aboutyour skin and muscles … it may be that you suffer a lack of testosterone that prevents you from having a fulfilled life as you did before.

After trying several treatments, 90% of men have found in our therapy the best results, and they have been wonderful.

Everyone has seen an improvement in their physical and mental agility, mood, libido, and a lost of belly fat.

We believe that every man deserves to feel virile, have abundant energy and experience better moods. Our approach is: “Do not blame age, do not resign that soon” .

  • Clinical Analysis of testosterone levels.

To determine testosterone levels perform a blood test , which determines the level of total testosterone and free-testosterone (the latter is bioavailable testosterone, that is, what is actually active).

If your testosterone levels are less than 6.6 pg / dl, you can be suffering from hypogonadism, and if this figure hovering above, you will probably have some limitations in your daily life.

After obtaining the results, if you present low testosterone levels, after analyzing your case, doctors mayrecommend the possibilities for a hormone replacement therapy.

In these blood tests we can also detect possible drawbacks.

One evidence that you may be suffering from this deficit, which is increasingly common in society, can be obtained by performing a blood test that is available here, and although results are not conclusive, they can be indicative. You can send us your test to get our opinion, without compromise.

WHAT IS THE NORMAL TESTOSTERONE LEVELS RATE?

Normal testosterone levels in healthy men are between 6.6pg / ml and 42.5 pg / ml. A correct physiology allows the brain and testicles to work together in order to keep testosterone levels within the normal range.

The brain produces “signals” hormones that are responsible for stimulating testosteroneproduction. When testosterone levels are within an acceptable range, the production of hormones slows down. With age, the acceptable limits ranges changes.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST? WHEN IT´S OVER, DO I NEED ANY MORE THERAPY?

A hormonal treatment with testosterone for hypogonadism can last between 3 and 6 month, depending on the patient’s general condition, response and his lifestyle. A healthierlifestyle influences in the effectiveness of therapy.

Once the treatment has finished, analyzing the resulting parameters, and objectives set and met, the doctor will evaluate whether to take a break in the treatment or to continue with it, and after which it would be recommended to follow-up carrying out new analysis.

WHAT IS THE NORMAL DOSE?

The number of injections and doses are customized according to each patient in order to achieve a safe and effective treatment. Standardized therapies usually do not have the right results, as the proper dose is key.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM AGE TO UNDERGO THIS TREATMENT?

The doctor will recommend or not to undergo a treatment, depending on the parameters of each patient.

We are experts in measuring free-testosterone levels, and you can count on us to follow up on your results, analyzing regularly your levels. If you can, we encourage you to tell us your case in our blog.

Every man is different, genetic factors, lifestyle, diseases, stress, can influence on the production of testosterone. Young patients really have problems because they have testosterone deficiency intheir 20´s and 30´s, during that age they which should have reached their maximum values off testosterone. Older patients also notice the symptoms of low testosterone levels.

CAN MY TESTOSTERONE LEVELS BE OPTIMISED NATURALLY?

Under normal conditions, up to the age of 40 your testosterone levels do not decrease naturally, so to undergo replacement therapy at an early age can cause negative effects. Although we now see that more and more men suffer from this being younger.

Incases of testosterone deficiency in young people, surely a replacement therapy is only effective if it is caused because of a failures of the endocrine system, must be safe and discardfirst other causes that may be indicative of a more serious problems. In any case, young people may have a lack of natural free-testosterone as a result of having undergone any hormonal “cycle” and treatments without medical supervision.

As for the maximum age it depends on the style of life, fitness, personal metabolism, diseases … so, like the limitsin the age are approximate, also the prescriptions and indications of this type of treatment depends on each person. Therefore, the initial strict and objective analysis is essential to make a decision, and how to do it.

WHERE ARE INJECTIONS APPLIED?

Injections are applied in your gluteal folds or deltoid muscle, changing sides with each injection.

IF I DON´T COMPLETE THE TREATMENT, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?WOULD MY BODY STOP PRODUCING TESTOSTERONE NATURALLY?

Your body will return to its normal performance level in a few months. You can balance the effects of therapy, once completed, under the supervision of our health professionals, in order to minimize the side effects resulting from reducing the dose.

The hypothalamus glandand pituitary are responsible for testosterone regulation and production. In normal conditions your body balances these levels perfectly.

If you have undergone a testosterone replacementtreatment, it is because your body has not been able to properly regulated the production of this hormone by itself .

When testosterone levels are manipulated through injections, the hypothalamus and pituitary respond by sending a signal to the testicles to decrease natural production. In people who suffer from low testosterone levels, their body is not sending the right signals, or does regulate actual production or it is not able to produce effective levels once given the signal to do so.

Therefore, patients who abandon their treatment will return to their initial levels of testosterone (prior to the therapy), which have been previously diagnosed as insufficient.

IF THIS TREATMENT IS RIGHT FOR ME, WHY CAN I NOT INJECT MYSELF?

Testosterone therapy is safe only when it is administered at an appropriate doses and intervals, and it is supervised by a health professional to ensure that the possible side effects are controlled effectively.

It may take a while to determine the most effective dose for each person. Although the therapy is generally safe, strict and effective monitoring is very important. We want to reduce side effects as much as possible by administering the injections in our clinic whenever is possible. The dose can be adjusted to compensate an interruption in the treatment in case of not being able to attend your appointment in an extended period of time.

WHY DO I NEED TO GET BLOOD EXTRACTIONS SEVERAL TIMES?

The only way to control your testosterone levels effectively and identify potential problems is through a blood test, which is performed by an independent certified laboratory. This will help identify the appropriate dose for you. Nobody likes to get a blood test, but our experienced staff will make the process as pleasant as possible.

MY DOCTOR SAYS MY TESTOSTERONE LEVELS ARE “NORMAL” AND DOES NOT BELIEVE YOU NEED THERAPY, BUT DO NOT FEEL GOOD…

The levels of testosterone production in your body may vary, and a blood test is a snapshot of your current production. There is not an exact amount for each age that is considered normal. Men between 18 and 80 can have a wide range of levels. Many factors can alter production. For example, an increment of the hormone cortisol (which levels risedue to stress) produces less testosterone.

Testosterone levels between 6.6 pg/ ml to 40 pg / ml are considered normal. But you could be in the low normal range. Hypogonadism is diagnosed taking into account symptoms and testosterone levels. If you are in the limit and have symptoms that can be corrected effectively with therapy testosterone you may be suitable for a treatment.

THIS TREATMENT IS PRETTY NEW IN SPAIN, WHAT GUARANTEES DO I HAVE THAT IT WILL WORK? CAN I TRUST THE TREATMENT WILL WORK?

Testosterone, at optimal levels, generates better health, physical strength, sexual health, reduces body fat and increases muscle mass, in addition, it reports other beneficial effects in relation to diseases such as diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis.

Therefore, the better we feel, the more optimistic and better mood we are in, facilitating our relationships with others, our empathy and our sociability.

We also get more vitality and drive, making us in control of our own life, and maintaining self confidence and self assurance. Others will notice this in our professional relationships, but do not confuse being more aggressive, with a more secure and firmer attitude in these areas.

WHAT ARE THE PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF TESTOSTERONE?

Testosterone is responsible for the characteristicsin men during fetal, infant and pubertal development, and then, for the maintenance of the male phenotype and androgen-dependent functions (p. i.e. Spermatogenesis, accessory sexual glands) characteristics.

Exogenous androgens are administered in order to improve the deficient endogenous testosterone concentrations and its signs and symptoms related to it. Depending on the target organ, the spectrum of activities of testosterone is mainly androgenic (p. .: i.e. prostate, seminal vesicles, epididymis) or protein anabolic (muscle, bone, hematopoiesis, rin, liver). The effects of testosterone in some organs arise after peripheral conversion of testosterone into estradiol, which joinsthe estrogen receptors in the nucleus of the target cells, p. eg. testicular Leydig cells and pituitary, fat, brain, and seas cells. In men, in the hypogonadal, androgen reduce body fat mass, increase lean body mass, muscle strength and prevent from bone loss. Androgens may improve sexual function and may also have psychotropic positive effects thathelp improve your mood.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TESTOSTERONE INJECTIONS AGAINST OTHER METHODS THAT USE PATCHES OR GELS?

From our experience, therapies using gels are somewhat uncomfortable and less effective than other methods. One of the main disadvantages of gels is that they can be easilytransmitted unconsciously to children or other people by physical contact withthe patient. Testosterone patches can cause a significant rash at the site of application, or bad adherence, especially in the summer months. It has been found that gels and patches may require adjustments of the doses to achieve medically appropriate concentrations in blood and some patients are unable to absorb sufficient testosterone from these patches due to insufficient aromatization agent administered by this way, as by oral means, because the active ingredient is expelled by the body with little effectiveness, and also having to go through the liver and other organs unnecessarily. Testosterone injections are the most widespread method, not only for its safety, but also for its great effectiveness, getting to act in seconds after its administration.
IN WHICH CASES THE USE OF A TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT TREATMENT IS NOT RECOMMENDED?

Only a specialist can respond fully and accurately to this question in which cases the use of a testosterone replacement treatment is not recommended? However, in general, testosterone therapy is not recommended for people with:

  • A palpable prostate nodule.
  • Erythrocytosis.
  • Hyperviscosity.
  • Obstructive sleep apnea untreated.
  • Severe heart failure.
  • Severe congestive heart failure (class III or IV).
  • High number of tumor markers in the prostate.
  • Severe symptoms in the lower urinary tract associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy.
  • Severe benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms (symptom score prostate> 19)
  • Unexplained elevation of PSA.
  • Severe lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy.
  • Someone trying to conceive children.
  • Breast carcinoma or suspected or confirmed prostate known hypersensitivity to anabolic androgenic steroids, or any of its ingredients.
  • severe cardio-renal disease, edema or impaired liver function.
  • Nephritis, nephrosis or impaired renal function or coronary artery disease.
  • Hypercalcemia due to metastatic breast cancer, prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Synthetic testosterone can enlarge the prostate of elderly men and is not recommended for those who suffer or are prone to prostate cancer.
  • Men who suffer from breast cancer should avoid taking testosterone cypionate.
  • In addition, anyone allergic to hormones or any of the other ingredients (testosterone injection contains benzyl alcohol) should avoid this treatment.
  • Because testosterone can affect the levels of blood sugar, diabetics should discuss treatment with their doctors and monitor their sugar levels for any changes during treatment.

In any case, check with our endocrine, the only specialists in the field of hormone treatment. They will advise you properly.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF TESTOSTERONE THERAPY?

The most common side effects include: In very rare cases, > 1/1000: excessively oily skin, acne, nausea, vomiting, headache. Possible: temporary rush on the injection site.

It is important to highlight that testosterone can interact with medicaments for cholesterol, heart, blood thinners, insulin or oral diabetes medications, or other steroids.

INTERACTION OF TESTOSTERONE WITH OTHER DRUGS.

Barbiturates and other enzyme inducers: interactions with drugs that induce microsomal enzymes may occur, which may cause an increased clearance of testosterone.
Oxyphenbutazone: Some increased serum oxyphenbutazone have been reported.

Oral anticoagulants: It has been reported that testosterone and its derivatives increase the activity of oral anticoagulants, which may require an adjustment of the dose. As a general rule you alwaysmust take into account the limitations of using intramuscular injections in patients with genetic irregularities or acquired during blood clotting.
Hypoglycemic: Androgens may increase the hypoglycemic effects of insulin. Therefore, it may be necessary to reduce the dose of hypoglycemic.
